“Have faith in the children of today for they are our future tomorrow”

This is an underpinning idea of the Richmond Initiative—a behaviour management programme set in a quality systems context.

With an emphasis on people, and especially on teamwork, the staff of Richmond School set out to develop a quality model of education, with an emphasis on student behaviour. This model involved school, parents, and community.

Cheryl Doig, principal of Richmond School and Beeby Fellow, describes how the quality systems were developed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated. With empowerment and ownership a strength, the model has proved responsive to change. “…we are continually trying new ideas, modifying, adding and constructing until we find something that meets our needs as teachers, and also works for our students…. We are committed to, and passionate about, making a difference for our students. Our whole school is focused on this aim.”

The book includes an appendix which contains several resources which can be copied or adapted for individual school use.
