NZCER books win awards

Three books published by NZCER Press are winners in the New Zealand Content Counts Awards 2016. The awards were announced at a ceremony in Auckland on 24 November and included votes from teachers.

Geography in Focus: Teaching and learning in issues-based classrooms won the Best Resource in Secondary. The judges described it as a valuable resource for an often overlooked subject, offering transferable methodologies that could benefit teaching practice in many other curriculum areas.

Autism Spectrum Disorder in Aotearoa New Zealand: Promising practices and interesting issues  took out the award for Best Resource in Higher Education.  The judges commented that the book was strongly tailored for a New Zealand audience, and visually rich for classroom use. A timely publication given the growing awareness of autism, the resource added significant pedagogical value, and excellent strategies for inclusion of all children in classrooms, not only those with autism.

LEMMA: Mathematics tasks that promote higher order thinking was the joint winner of the Teachers' Choice award for best resource in secondary. It received an equal share of the teacher votes with Treaty of Waitangi - Te Tiriti O Waitangi Level 5 Learning Workbook (FJ Gibson, ESA Publications (NZ) Ltd).

Huge congratulations to the authors, editors and contributors.
