Connected Educator Month New Zealand kicks off next week. We’re pleased to announce that we will be hosting the first Connected Educator book group. Key Competencies for the Future will be spotlighted through webinars and online discussions.
This week we’d like to keep with the key competencies theme by revisiting Lifelong Literacy: The integration of key competencies and reading by NZCER’s Senior Researchers Juliet Twist and Sue McDowall.
Published in 2010, this report presents the findings of a research project which explored how the key competencies described in NZC might be integrated with the teaching of reading in the middle years of primary school (Years 3–6). The project involved researchers supporting teachers to conceptualise key competencies more deeply and design and implement reading programmes which integrate the competencies.
