The British Ability Scales: Third Edition (BAS3) is a battery of individually administered tests, designed for use by educational and clinical psychologists to assess children or adolescents who have been referred to them for a wide range of reasons, including learning and behavioural difficulties. It provides a comprehensive and flexible means of assessing different aspects of a child’s current intellectual functioning across the age range 3 years (3:00) to 17 years 11 months (17:11). It also allows a comparison of these aspects with the child’s basic educational progress. Used for a wide range of purposes, the battery can also provide researchers with a valuable research tool.
The NEW edition is a revision and update of the BAS-II. It incorporates improvements to the existing scales which reflect changes to the National Curriculum, a supplementary parallel form of Word Reading and importantly, new normative information based on a nationwide standardisation.
- BAS3 offers the convenience of providing one instrument for assessing both abilities and achievement at all ages from pre-school to end of secondary school
- Co-normed with an assessment of reading comprehension and restandardised in 2009–2010
- Reliable normative information based on over 1,400 children within the UK
- Updated full-colour illustrations across a range of scales, making the assessment more appealing to the child
- Updated words to the Spelling Scale and pictures within the Number Skills scale ensure that the battery is both relevant and appealing to children
- Reflects the impact of the National Curriculum and the National Literacy Strategy on current literacy teaching through the introduction of a new form within the Word Reading Scale
- The flexibility of BAS3 enables the accurate assessment of both gifted and developmentally delayed individuals
- New scoring and analysis software
- Score profiling and diagnostic facilities help support practitioners with a problem solving approach
- Careful and detailed attention to ethnic- and gender-related fairness
- Includes a new easier to transport carrying case
