This multiple-item rating scale assesses cognitive and behavioural competence in the elderly. The cognitive assessment scale is a short test with three sections: information/ orientation; mental ability; and psychomotor (utilising the Gibson Spiral Maze). The behavioural rating scale comprises 18 items measuring physical disability, apathy, communication difficulties, and social disturbance. The scoring procedures relate to the level of cognitive and behavioural dependency to the likely need for community or hospital care.
