This test is designed to assess listening, reading, and writing in students for whom English is a second language. The listening test includes a variety of school-based listening contexts (e.g. announcements, teacher instructions, classroom lessons, social interactions between students). The reading test comprises texts varying in length and complexity and texts relating to school subject areas and the demands of everyday school life. The writing test includes report writing, argumentative essays, choice of tasks, and annotated examples of students' work. DELTA is based on realistic classroom tasks and action, and suited to the interest and maturity levels of secondary students.
