The RPAB consists of 16 subtests which provide a detailed picture of a client’s visual perceptual ability before treatment, following head injury, or a stroke. The 16 subtests are as follows:

  • Picture matching
  • Object matching
  • Size recognition
  • Series
  • Missing article
  • Sequencing–pictures
  • Right/left copying words
  • Colour matching
  • Right/left copying shapes
  • Cube copying
  • Three-dimensional copying
  • Cancellation
  • Figure–ground discrimination
  • Animal halves
  • Body-image self-identification
  • Body image

The degree of visual perceptual deficit is calculated by comparing the client’s visual perceptual score with that which would be expected for someone of the same premorbid intelligence level. The client’s premorbid level can be established by using such tests as the National Adult Reading Test.
