Sutherland Phonological Awareness Test - Revised (SPAT-R)
1st to 4th year of schooling
Individual or group
10-15 minutes (untimed)
SPAT-R is a simple and comprehensive standardised test that provides an overview of the phonological awareness skills required for early literacy development. May be used diagnostically for older children and alternate forms are available for pre-and post testing.
Phonological awareness is tested at the levels of syllable, onset-rime and phoneme (CVC and consonant clusters). Skills tested: sound identification; blending; segmenting; manipulation; non-word reading and spelling.
The SPAT-R provides in-depth analysis of non-word spelling errors and a normed diagnostic picture of emerging phonemic awareness skills. A comprehensive manual covers qualitative interpretation and follow-up. There is a choice of test booklet to streamline administration and reporting, or economical one-page test score-sheet for school screenings.
A 30-minute DVD resource demonstrates administration of the entire test, including discontinuation guidelines, and provides an overview of scoring.
