The TVPS-3 was designed to determine the visual perceptual strengths and weaknesses of students. It utilises black and white line drawings as stimuli for all of the perceptual tasks and the items are presented in a multiple-choice format. Responses can be made orally or by pointing to the answer choice. The perceptual areas assessed are:
- Visual discrimination
- Visual memory
- Visual spacial relationships
- Form constancy
- Visual sequential memory
- Figure–ground
- Visual closure
