Alex Neill

Alex is a Researcher at NZCER.

His research interests include:

  • mathematics education
  • assessment
  • test development

Alex's current involvement in NZCER projects:

  • Team leader for mathematics on the Assessment Resource Banks. He shares in writing, trialling, and reviewing mathematical resources for the banks. He also coordinates research carried out to support the development of mathematical resources.  His particular interests are currently in algebraic thinking, computational estimation, and extended basic facts.
  • The Development of the Progressive Achievement Test in Mathematics project, which is utilising the CAS pilot to develop an extra PAT test aimed at late Year 10 students. He also has produced a customised test for a specific target audience.
  • The Development of the Progressive Achievement Test in Science project.
  • Alex is also involved with the Adult literacy and numeracy assessment tool project, particularly in developing assessment items.
