This was part of the Science in the curriculum series of projects. Rosemary Hipkins co-lead the project with Kath Norton of CWA. The science learning area emphasises developing students’ citizenship capabilities. This project explored ways to provide support for teaching and learning that could help achieve this citizenship purpose. Based on the key competencies, the nature of science strand of NZC, and the nature of science research literature, five foundational science capabilities were described. New resources were created to show how to modify existing curriculum resources to foreground capability development.
