Education-Employment Linkages

This is a 5-year project that NZCER is undertaking with researchers from AERU at Lincoln University and He Pārekereke at Victoria University of Wellington.

The project's aim is to map and design improved formal systems to help young New Zealanders make good education-employment linkages to benefit themselves, their communities, and the national economy.

The project integrates work across school communities, regional communities, Māori and Pacific communities, and employers. NZCER is responsible for the school communities part of the project. This involves a survey of school-based careers education systems (co-funded by the Ministry of Education), and case studies of schools (teachers, students, and parents) and their relationships with local training providers and organisations. In later stages some newly  developed support systems for young people will be piloted.

NZCER's 2010-2012 focus for the project is on linking education (especially lifelong learning) to career development (especially lifelong guidance) in ways that move from static models of content delivery to dynamic models of capacity building.

The project's Objective Leaders are: Dr Karen Vaughan (NZCER), Professor Paul Dalziel (AERU), Dr Jane Higgins (AERU), and Dr Hazel Phillips (He Pārekereke).
