Engagement with subject English for the 21st century

Project Leader(s):

This is a new project designed to combine and build on the now considerable body of NZCER work on language and literacy, key competencies and The New Zealand Curriculum document, and 21st century learning. Its purpose is to:

·         investigate the place of English (language, literature and literacy) in the school curriculum of the future, looking at how and why new approaches are needed if English is to play a role in developing students’ ability to think with knowledge (as opposed to simply acquiring knowledge);

·         develop a research-based resource and professional development model that can support this future-oriented approach to the teaching of English.

The focus will be mainly on the middle and upper primary school years.
