Te Wāhanga has been working with the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Ltd (ESR) on a project about future food technologies and Māori well-being. It explored the question of how can dialogue with diverse Māori communities suport sustainable decision-making on future food technologies such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, sustainable agriculture and functional foods. Working with kaupapa Māori principles, we interviewed Māori scientists, government workers and whānau.
We produced a four page brochure on the findings from the project. This research is part of a wider project called Coming to the table, Sustainable decision-making for future food technologies.
Te Wāhanga have been working with the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Ltd (ESR) to explore how dialogue with diverse Maori communities can support sustainable decision-making on future food technologies, such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, sustainable agriculture and functional foods. Using kaupapa Māori principles and ways of understanding the world, we conducted interviews with Māori scientists, government workers and whanau. We have produced a four page brochure on the findings.
This scoping study responds to criticisms that research in the field of Māori education is often not determined by Māori or for Māori. This is particularly the case for whānau, kaiako, and communities at the ‘coal face’ working within Māori education areas. This project puts their voices centre-stage. This study is being guided by the overarching goal of bringing together the collective wisdom, aspirations, and experiences of Māori. It is based around a collaboration with other Māori education researchers, and communities committed to Māori educational aspirations. The findings from this study, which will be released soon, will build a collaborative Māori-led research agenda for Te Wāhanga, NZCER over the next 5 years.
