Great Spaces for Teachers

Great Spaces for Teachers

Great Spaces for Teachers is a feature within the Teacher Workplace Survey, first run in 2012. Winners for the 2013 award were announced in early 2014. We offer three prizes of $1000 to schools with the most positive results in the Teacher Workplace Survey, one in each of the school size bands. Click here for further information about Teacher Workplace Survey.

Working conditions affect how well we can do our jobs. There is strong research evidence about the working conditions in schools that make the biggest difference to teachers and to student learning. NZCER wants to lead a conversation about the workplace factors that support great teaching and we want to celebrate the positive working environments that many schools achieve.

Great Spaces is intended as an extra bonus to those schools that have shown their interest and commitment in teacher workplaces by carrying out the survey.

How it works

When you sign up for the survey you are automatically entered into the Great Spaces for Teachers initiative (unless you tell us you would like to opt out.) Schools are entered according to their size band (see the survey page). We are offering one prize of $1000 to the school with the most positive results in the Teacher Workplace Survey in each of the school size bands.

This year we have an additional optional feature. We are looking for succinct descriptions of what makes a great space for teachers. We have opted for a "tweet" - 140 characters or less. It can be witty, pointed or simply exactly right. There are three $200 prizes available for the top tweets and we'll spread them widely.

As well as the cash prize, schools will receive a certificate acknowledging their achievement and will get free entry to the survey next year. This gives them the opportunity to track progress.

Criteria

1.       The initiative is open only to those schools that have signed up to do the NZCER Teacher Workplace Survey during the third term and until 30 November 2013.

2.       The prize will be awarded to the school with the highest score in the survey, in each of the school size bands.

3.       The decision will be made by NZCER alone.

4.       NZCER may choose not to award a prize in any one size band if there are fewer than 10 schools registered in that band.

5.       NZCER may publicise the tweets. in the context of  Great Spaces and the Teacher Workplace Survey.
