PAT:Listening provides information about students' ability to focus their listening and to make meaning from texts that are read to them.
Constructing the new test
The previous edition of PAT:Listening Comprehension was written in 1994 and we’ve been keen to revise it for some time. An NZCER team began work on the latest revision in 2009. This is a major undertaking, including piloting all the items in schools, review by teachers and specialists in the teaching and assessment of reading, and a national trial followed by a national norming study which involved almost 12,500 students.
