The New Zealand Council for Educational Research (NZCER) is pleased to announce that Charles Darr has been appointed Chief Researcher with a special interest in assessment.
‘Charles’s expertise and thought leadership in assessment is an asset to NZCER, and his views are widely sought within and beyond the New Zealand education sector,’ Graeme Cosslett NZCER Director said.
‘Charles’s appointment to this position reflects the critical role assessment plays in education and NZCER’s belief that it can support effective teaching and learning,’ Mr Cosslett said.
Charles Darr joined NZCER in 2003 after working as a teacher. Before his appointment as Chief Researcher, he was Manager of Assessment Design and Reporting and a Senior Researcher. He leads NZCER’s work on the Progress and Consistency Tool and is conceptual leader of our contribution to the National Monitoring Study of Student Achievement–Wānangatia Te Putanga Tauria and the Progress and Consistency Tool.
In 2018 Charles was appointed to two Ministerial Advisory Groups, one on the review of NCEA and the other on curriculum, progress and achievement.
Charles becomes the fourth Chief Researcher at NZCER, alongside Drs Cathy Wylie, Rosemary Hipkins, and Karen Vaughan.
