Eliza de Waal
Eliza is a Researcher at NZCER.
She works on a wide range of research, evaluation, and tool development projects. Eliza's research expertise includes a strong linguistic focus in text, data, and discourse analysis. She is skilled in discursive analysis of qualitative interview data.
Eliza is also experienced in survey design and interview schedules.
Before joining NZCER in 2009, Eliza worked in executive and administrative roles in a secondary school. Her people management and administrative skills are an asset to her project teams.
Eliza's MA thesis involved linguistic analysis of a range of public texts to investigate the discursive construction of the concept of success in education.
Eliza working background in educational administration provides a good understanding of the school environment, the management and governance of schools, and school finances.
Eliza has an MA (Dist) Education, BA (1st Class Hons) Linguistics and Second Language Learning from Victoria University of Wellington. She also has a Cambridge ESOL Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
