Key competencies: Challenges for implementation in a national curriculum

Author(s):
Rosemary Hipkins

This paper places key competencies in a New Zealand context.   It discusses some challenges as the key competencies are implemented in school curricula:

  • But we already do that: building on current thinking
  • We haven't got time to do that
  • What knowledge counts?
  • If they are not assessed we will just ignore them
