Investigating the Auckland Beginning Teachers Project

Project Leader(s):
Project contact person(s):

The Auckland Beginning Teacher (BT) Project is a joint project between the Ministry of Education and the Auckland Primary Principals Association. It supports up to 40 beginning teachers through to full certification, ensuring they obtain specialist skills in junior and especially new entrant classrooms. It also aims to help ease the supply pressure of schools involved. The project is specific to primary schools in Auckland. The purpose of our investigation is to understand what difference the project is making to the schools and BTs involved, and what lessons the project has for wider issues of BT employment and retention.  The project and our investigation of it run for 2017 and 2018, reporting in February 2019.
