We want to hear what you think about AI!
NZCER is conducting online surveys to explore perceptions and use of generative AI in New Zealand primary schools. We are inviting Year 5–8 teachers and students to participate, and we hope you will contribute to this research.
Why participate?
By participating, you’ll help create a clearer picture of how AI tools impact teaching and learning for primary students in Aotearoa New Zealand.
If you do not use AI tools, we are still very keen to hear from you! We are looking for a wide range of perspectives, and your views – whether you use AI or not – matter to us and are important for constructing a complete picture of current perceptions and uses of AI in teaching and learning.
Include your students
We are excited to hear from students as well as teachers. With your principal's approval, you can administer a student survey to your class, giving your students a chance to tell us what they think about AI.
As students often perceive and experience new technologies differently from adults, including students in this research provides a more comprehensive look at AI in the classroom. Even if AI tools aren’t used in your school, learning about both teachers’ and students’ perspectives on AI’s presence and potential impact on education will help us build a well-rounded understanding.
How to participate
Simply click this link and fill out the survey!
Principal Approval: If you wish to invite your students to complete the student survey, please obtain your principal's approval. Principals can provide online consent for student participation at their schools here.
What you’ll get out of the survey
Schools with five or more participating teachers and classes will receive a customised report from NZCER that summarises school-specific insights.
Additionally, all teachers who complete the survey are eligible for a prize draw of $100 book or grocery vouchers. Each school that has at least one teacher and class complete the survey will additionally go into a prize draw for $300 of book tokens for their school.
