Career paths in the New Zealand primary school sector report

Author(s):
Marie Cameron and Rachel Dingle

The Ministry of Education (Ministry), in association with the New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI) and the New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) was interested in an additional perspective to the ACER survey to get an insight into what was happening in the middle management area of primary schools. The study was commissioned by NZEI and the Ministry of Education and funded by the Ministry.

Some teachers currently perceive their opportunities for advancement as limited. The study found that some teachers and principals have different perceptions about the support available for leadership/management, professional learning opportunities and the way units are allocated.

The Ministry, NZEI and NZSTA are together exploring career pathway options for the primary school sector.
