Keita Durie

Keita began her teaching career in 2016 as a bilingual kaiako in a rūmaki unit in Tauranga Moana. She has extensive experience with both the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. Keita has also successfully led a newly established bilingual unit in Whangārei, collaborating with iwi, hapū, whānau and leadership to lay the unit’s foundation. She holds a Master of Education (Māori Education) from Massey University and is currently working on her doctoral thesis, titled Manukura: A Māori Model of Education. As a passionate kairangahau Māori, Keita aims to conduct research within a kaupapa Māori methodological framework to create transformational outcomes for Māori. Her recent publications include Me aro ki te hā o Hine-ahu-one | Wāhine Māori in Leadership. Additionally, Keita has led NZCER’s refreshed reo Māori assessment, Te Urungi, designed for beginner’s in te reo Māori.
